Mr. Alasdair Bownas has over 10 years experience managing multiple contracts, programs, and events of varying size, scope and requirements. Since joining the Webster Group, Mr. Bownas has been involved in revising the venue procurement process for all meetings and has executed events for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Chesapeake Crescent Foundation, Americans Elect and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
For the past five years, Mr. Bownas held the position of Project Manager for the Hill Group, providing oversight to several multi-million dollar contracts, focusing on meeting and event management and communication. Events ranged from 15-1200 attendees across different federal government clients including several institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Indian Health Service (IHS), Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues (PCSBI), and USAID. As well as diverse conferences, Mr. Bownas managed other projects including public outreach and research translation, personnel management, graphic and website design, database development, grant management, writing services and strategic planning.
Mr. Bownas regularly travelled to events throughout the U.S., managing the onsite process for all clients including venue and vendor liaison and managing staff and volunteers. He was responsible for developing and administering accurate budgets, tracking and scheduling staff and deliverables, supervising and training staff and consultants, and ensuring consistent communication and optimum customer service to clients and stakeholders.
Prior to becoming a Project Manager, Mr. Bownas was a Conference Manager at the Hill Group overseeing all logistical aspects of each event for multiple NIH and IHS conferences, from the pre-planning stage through the post-meeting evaluation stage. Mr. Bownas also worked as a Regional Manager for a sports development firm, organizing and producing youth soccer camps and coaching programs throughout the country.
Mr. Bownas attained the status of Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) in 2007. He attended the University of Manchester, England, where he received a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, in History and Social Sciences. He is an active member of the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), serving on the Capital Chapter Professional Development Committee.
