Jan Kary

Jan Kary is a born-and-raised Marylander with almost three decades of service to the nonprofit sector.  After several years at the University of Maryland and a DC-based business school, Jan headed for the sun and surf in Hawaii and worked for four years in the employment industry.  As Director of Seminar Sales for Walk Thru the Bible Ministries in Atlanta in the 1980’s, Jan marketed to churches, schools and universities across the country.  Returning to the DC area, she held several event management and marketing department leadership positions at Prison Fellowship, the largest prison ministry in the country, founded by Chuck Colson.  To focus on fund development, particularly in the corporate sector, she spent nine years as Managing Director at Orr Associates, Inc., a DC-based fundraising agency serving nonprofit clients in health, youth services and advocacy.  In this role, Jan specialized in developing corporate giving vehicles including galas, sponsorship campaigns, events, cause marketing and employee giving programs.

She served five years as Senior VP of Marketing & Development for World Relief and most recently became a student of local fundraising operations with a role as VP of Development for Volunteers of America Chesapeake.  In this role, Jan created a development department to build private revenue from individuals, corporations, foundations, workplace giving and direct mail.

Now Jan has started a new chapter in her career as Principal Consultant for Jan Kary & Associates, a consulting agency serving the nonprofit sector with development and fundraising.  She is delighted to partner with The Webster Group as a Senior Consultant to lead fundraising efforts for a host of Webster clients.

There’s no greater joy for Jan than seeing a donor realize the life-changing nature of their gift – large or small – in-kind, cash, stock or other.  Jan lives in Columbia, Maryland with two four-footed children, Yogi and Fuzzy.
