On Sunday, September 15, approximately 150 guests gathered at Virginia International Polo Club (VIPolo) in Upperville, Virginia for the National Sporting Library & Museum’s 2013 Benefit Polo Match & Luncheon, hosted by Event Chairmen B. Tim and Michelle Brookshire, Honorary Chairman Jacqueline Mars, Host Committee Chair Ann Nitze, and Manuel H. Johnson, Chairman of the Board.
It was a beautiful and warm afternoon as guests began arriving to mingle over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the pavilion adjacent to the polo field. After the reception, guests took their seats to enjoy an exquisite lunch of herb roasted and pan seared Ayrshire Farm chicken breast and woodland mushroom stuffed thigh meat smothered in a chicken and autumn vegetable reduction sauce.
While guests socialized over treats from the dessert bar, the field festivities began with a parade of remarkably well-behaved Piedmont Fox Hounds, followed by a performance by the Washington Scottish Pipe Band. The ponies and players were then introduced and the match began.
Half time consisted of awarding the winners of the ladies hat contest – first place was awarded a hand-painted Cachepot from Hungary, designed and donated by Anna Weatherley – and the age-old divot stomp before the match resumed.
The Webster Group team could not have asked for better weather as we worked to make this another successful event for the second year in a row. The Webster Group worked closely with the NSLM staff on creating sponsorship benefits that would appeal to potential local and non local supporters. Our event chairmen were from Tyler, Texas, and so, in conjunction with NSLM, we worked hard to ensure that we were reaching out to local as well as Texan residents to inform them of the exciting weekend. We also facilitated the design and printing of the save-the-date, invitation and program journal, as well as coordinating registration, seating, scripting, catering, A/V and production.
TWG also worked very closely with catering, floral and A/V vendors to ensure that the event co-chair’s vision came alive. The centerpieces and greenery were done by Galleria Florist, who created fall centerpieces of dahlias, orchids, coxcomb and portea to match the jewel tones of the linens. Incorporated into the arrangements was a horse and polo player trophy to go with the theme of the day, as well as banners and green and orange sash linens which created a fall festive feeling as guests entered the tent.
It was wonderful to see guests enjoying the beautiful afternoon, exciting game and superb company while the National Sporting Library and Museum raised generous funds to continue to support their prestigious institution. Thank you to all sponsors and attendees of this wonderful event!
