On May 18, The Webster Group proudly assisted with a unique and important event – and helped the Feedback Global team “Feed the 5000” to raise awareness of the issue of food waste. Over 5,000 guests gathered throughout the day at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center be served a free vegetable curry lunch made from fresh produce that would have otherwise been discarded. The Feedback Global Team has worked in over 30 different cities around the world on this important effort, and partnered with DC Central Kitchen here to source all of the produce and raise interest in the event.
Chef José Andrés welcomed guests on stage and cooked two giant pans of his signature paella to add to the free feast. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, Restaurateur Spike Mendelsohn and other VIPs added star power to the stage show, which included chef demos using items you may not have thought to cook with before (fish head, or carrot top pesto, anyone?).
A number of other partner organizations including DC Greens, Capital Area Foodbank, Campus Kitchens and many others hosted displays, played games to further raise awareness of their missions, and much more.
