Lots of Wagging Tails at the Washington Humane Society’s Bark Ball

On the night of June 8, 2013, guests that were gliding through the Washington Hilton in a beautiful gown or tuxedo had to pay special attention not to step on any paws or tails. It is a rare treat to be able to attend a black-tie gala in Washington, D.C. with your family pooch, but at the Washington Humane Society’s 26th Annual Bark Ball, our four-legged friends were also invited guests, and not surprisingly, the stars of the evening.

More than 820 guests and over 400 dogs attended this year’s event at the Washington Hilton, which raised more than $550,000, a record, to benefit the critical programs and services of the Washington Humane Society. Guests were entertained by the evening’s emcee, ABC7 Senior Political Reporter Scott Thuman, treated to an amazing dinner, and wowed by an adoptable dog parade. While special guest Washington Redskin Chris Cooley participated in the program, the canine guests were able to indulge in the Bark Bar, which offered a variety of treats supplied by Barkley Square.

The Webster Group was proud to work with the Washington Humane Society on another of their exciting events. Our staff worked hard on volunteer coordination, recruiting and managing staff to work registration, greet guests, and support the live and silent auctions, including tech support. We even had a number of dedicated volunteers working as Barker Valets, because an evening with dogs, no matter how fancy, is not without its “accidents.”

We loved being a part of this celebrated Washington tradition. It truly was a special evening for all, humans and canines alike. If you would like more information about the Washington Humane Society, please visit www.washhumane.org. (All photos courtesy of the Washington Humane Society)
