On Saturday, July 20, 2013 Lea Hutchins, Director for The Webster Group, addressed a future generation of qualified event management professionals at George Washington University (GW). As the top student of GW’s Professional Event Management Certification Program’s 2013 graduating class and an accomplished event professional, she was asked to provide a few words of guidance and encouragement to her fellow graduates.
The ceremony was held in the City View Room at The Elliot School of International Affairs on the GW campus. In the window-lined room overlooking Washington, D.C., Lea was introduced by Kristin Lamoureux , GW Director of the International Institute of Tourism Studies, who summed up Lea’s many impressive accomplishments including her work with President George W. Bush, as the Director of Communications of the Pentagon Memorial Fund, the founder of her business Touch Communications LLC, and her current position with The Webster Group.
Lea opened her speech by discussing her experience participating in the program, then went on to describe how her impressive communications career led her towards the event industry. She discussed how working on the dedication ceremony of the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial showed her how much an event could affect people’s lives. After helping to organize such a poignant event, she began to view events as powerful communications channels that can be used to disseminate messages. It was this realization that motivated her to pursue her education in event management at GW.
Lea finished her speech by emphasizing to her fellow graduates the importance of event management professionals, saying, “We aren’t just party planners. We are here to inspire our clients and their guests through events.”
We at The Webster Group would like to congratulate Lea on earning her certificate in event management from George Washington University’s prestigious program. Congratulations Lea!
