The French Countryside Comes to DC

On April 5, more than 450 guests gathered at the Embassy of France for the annual fundraising event, A Vintage Affair, presented by Children’s National Health System, Board of Visitors and Honorary Chairs His Excellency Ambassador François Delattre and Sophie L’Helias-Delattre. The evening perfectly replicated an al fresco feast in the French countryside. The haute cuisine was complemented by a bounty of cheese and fruit boards sprinkled throughout the atrium. Every bit of décor that evening evoked an evening in the garden, from the French country linens to the rustic clay pots filled with vibrant fresh floral, and a quartet playing traditional French selections, the transformation was complete. When guests were not soaking in the sights, they were able to enjoy a number of exceptional wines from vineyards as local as the Shenandoah Valley and as distant as New Zealand, Greece and of course, the French countryside!

What made the evening most enjoyable, however, was the common cause that all gathered were devoted to raising funds for, Children’s National Health System. The Board of Visitors’ Annual Grants and Major Gift Program has raised almost $5 million to support the children and families at Children’s National over the past several years with A Vintage Affairand this year was no exception, with nearly $800,000 raised. For all the fun and excitement experienced that evening, the impact of the event is even more captivating, as the long term effects of A Vintage Affair will see proceeds directly assisting the development of the cutting-edge research and treatment Children’s National Health System has become known for.

“Everybody was having a good time whether they were eating, tasting the wine, or taking part in the auction. No one wanted to leave, they all wanted to stay which is really rare at events… What we provided, with the help of The Webster Group, was a great event. Everybody that I’ve talked to thought it was the best Vintage Affair they’ve ever been to,” said Event Chairman Frances Fitzgerald.

A Vintage Affairallowed The Webster Group to transform a classically beautiful building into a rustic and charming outdoor scene and even more importantly, allowed us to assist in a phenomenal cause. And that my friends, is what we call a gagner!
