From July 29-August 3, 2013, the AMVETS (American Veterans) organization convened in Reno, Nevada at John Ascuaga’s Nugget Hotel & Casino for their 69th National Convention. The Webster Group spent the week working hard to manage all of the convention space, A/V, public relations, décor, entertainment, production and overall event management for a jam-packed schedule full of countless meetings, dinners, a Joint Opening Ceremony – which included keynote remarks by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Erik Shinseki – and a closing banquet. Our staff also designed a convention website to give AMVETS members information about the hotel, area, agenda, and registration, scripted two major events, handled food and beverage throughout the week, and handled all convention and banquet registrations.
AMVETS is a volunteer-led organization formed after World War II which accepts honorably discharged veterans as members. AMVETS is one of the most respected volunteer-led organizations in the country that provides not only support for veterans and the active military in procuring their earned entitlements, but also community services that enhance the quality of life for this nation’s citizens. They also lobby for the interests of veterans, including support for veteran’s benefits such as pensions and the Veterans Affairs Hospital System, in addition to promoting other veterans causes.
The annual convention is a place where AMVETS leaders and members are given a chance to shape the future of their organization. From electing new leaders to voting on resolutions that set the foundation of AMVETS, the National Convention sets the stage for their coming year.
TWG was honored to work with our nation’s veterans on such an important event and handle so many aspects of the planning to help ensure a successful week for the organization.
