EVENT OERVIEW
The Regional Sub Saharan Africa Infrastructure Financing Workshop Series was designed to build USTDA’s existing partnerships with key international and U.S. financial institutions, showcase USTDA’s leadership in the project preparation life-cycle, highlight U.S. industry, foster U.S. business-to-government strategic partnering, and promote U.S. government financing capabilities along the project development and implementation process. The series included the organization and implementation of three events each organized in collaboration with a partner financing institution.
These Workshops were well attended and demonstrated the effectiveness of USTDA’s collaboration with partner organizations to bring together leading private and public stakeholders together to highlight U.S. and African best practices, technology and tools to mobilize capital to support infrastructure development in Africa. Each event received high marks from the participants for their strong content, high caliber of attendees and networking opportunities.
EVENT SUMMARY
The third and final Workshop in this series was planned and managed by The Wester Group (TWG) in coordination with USTDA and the Trade & Development Bank (TDB). This Workshop explored and discussed the issues listed above over two days with a wide range of U.S. and African experts, public sector entities, private sector developers, operators, investors, policymakers and other stakeholders to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and catalyze partnerships that will enable PPPs to support infrastructure projects in Africa. The Workshop discussed innovative financing models and support facilities that the USTDA, TDB, other U.S. government agencies and other leading institutions are deploying to bring sustainable PPP infrastructure projects to fruition. The Workshop convened industry leaders to address the enabling environment for infrastructure financing across the African continent, including U.S. technical experts and key regional financiers, who discussed some of their market-leading examples of successful infrastructure finance transactions structured as PPPs. Workshop sessions included topics such as the case for use of PPPs in addressing the infrastructure gap in Africa, tools for enhancing the use of PPPs, funding and financing strategies for early-stage project development to get PPP projects off the ground and enabling regulatory frameworks. A networking reception was held at the end of the second day. In addition, several organizations had tables in the Showcase Expo throughout the reception.
